About

I grew up wandering the mountains between Montana and Idaho and swimming in the rivers flowing below them. In the granite mountain basins and thick cedar forests of my childhood, I fell in love with the natural world. I create art to celebrate this love.  Through making art, I strive to understand the personality of a landscape--to understand the place where ridges become valleys, the path a river takes to slice through mountains, and the way sunlight dances across tree lines.

Years ago, while living in a yurt in the Alaskan rainforest, I taught myself to watercolor paint and fell in love with this ability to tell stories with water. As a river and sea kayak guide, understanding and trusting water is crucial for navigating rapids, eddys, and tide changes. Painting with watercolors requires a similar relationship with water.

I have spent time exploring the serpentine waterways of Southeast Alaska, the high mountain villages of Nepal, the steep river canyons of Idaho, and the snow capped peaks of the rocky mountain West. My artwork finds inspiration in all these places.
